- J. Jill is a multi-channel specialty retailer of women’s apparel and accessories.
- A wholly-owned subsidiary of The Talbots, Inc., J. Jill is based in Quincy, Massachusetts. Its Distribution Center and Call Center are located in Tilton, New Hampshire, and its international liaison office is located in New Delhi, India.
- At the end of fiscal 2007, J. Jill operated 271 stores in 39 states, including nine outlet stores. Additionally, J. Jill distributed 25 separate catalogs with an annual circulation of approximately 78 million.
Our History
- J. Jill was originally founded in 1959 by Carl and Mary Ann Lipsky as a custom clothing catalog service named after their daughters, Jennifer and Jill.
- The company was bought in 1987 by DM Management, which went public in 1993 (NASDAQ: DMMC).
- In 1999, DM Management consolidated its efforts under the J. Jill brand, changed its ticker symbol to JILL, and expanded from a cataloger to a multi-channel retailer with the launch of an e-commerce site and the opening of its first two retail stores in Natick, Massachusetts, and Providence, Rhode Island.
- On May 3, 2006, J. Jill became a wholly-owned subsidiary of The Talbots, Inc., a publicly traded company trading on NYSE as TLB.

- J. Jill offers a private label line of clothing designed to address a woman’s desire for easy sophistication -- whether she’s in the workplace, relaxing at home or out on the town. A carefully chosen selection of accessories and footwear is also available.
- The J. Jill design aesthetic is artistic in form and comfortable in function dominated by fluid shapes, asymmetrical lines, nature-inspired colors and high-touch fabrics. Subtle and carefully placed details lend an artisan quality that’s feminine without fuss.
- Knowing the 35+ woman does not come in one size or shape, J. Jill offers its clothing in a full spectrum of sizes, including Misses 2-20, Petite 0-18, Women’s 14W-28W. Select styles are also available in Tall sizes.
Our Selling Channels
J. Jill Retail Stores
- In fiscal 2007, J. Jill operated 271 specialty retail stores in 39 states, including nine outlet stores.
- J. Jill’s stores operate on an average of 3,000-3,500 gross square feet. Stores have a warm, serene atmosphere accented by natural elements like stone, wood and water, along with soothing colors and gentle lighting. J. Jill stores also feature spacious, well-lit fitting rooms and comfortable seating for guests’ friends, spouses and kids.
- In fiscal 2007, J. Jill distributed 25 separate catalogs with an annual circulation of approximately 78 million
- J. Jill introduced its e-commerce website in September 1999, making available online virtually all current catalog merchandise. Merchandise purchased online or via the catalog can be returned to any J. Jill store or to its distribution center.
Our Facilities
- Corporate Headquarters: J. Jill’s corporate headquarters are located in Quincy, Massachusetts. The office is approximately 93,000 square feet and houses the company’s business and merchandising offices.
- Call Center/Distribution Center: Opened in 1998 in Tilton, New Hampshire, this 589,000 square foot facility houses J. Jill’s fulfillment and distribution operations, as well as the company’s call center operation and other administrative offices.
- International Liaison Office: J. Jill opened its liaison office in 2006 in New Delhi, India. The office oversees the development, sourcing and manufacturing of the brand’s apparel and accessories that are manufactured in India.
