The Gathering Place, Denver’s only daytime drop-in center, is a safe haven for poor and/or homeless women and their children. Founded in 1986, the center provides emergency services for immediate relief to women in distress and their children, and helps them take the next steps toward rebuilding their lives.
The Compassion Fund grant of $10,000 is being used to support the Gathering Place’s Children’s Area, where clients can place their children in the care of staff and volunteers while they attend on-site programs, take showers, do laundry, or get a much-needed break.
In the Children’s Area, kids experience stability, security and predictability through age-appropriate activities that help build their self-confidence while learning creative self-expression. With the help of a dynamic staff, twelve to twenty-five kids each day develop a sense of belonging to a community.
