The Oasis Haven for Women & Children, Inc. is a charitable, nonprofit organization dedicated to providing food and clothing to women and their young children. Oasis offers these services in a safe, nurturing environment, is committed to fostering healthy family relationships, and seeks to preserve the dignity of people and their cultures. Located at a single location in downtown Paterson, New Jersey, Oasis provides educational and other opportunities with an aim of fostering economic independence and helping women compete in today's marketplace.
The adult-education program for women has a goal of placing women in a favorable position to obtain a job or to improve their current employment options, and to promote economic independence. The program offers GED, ESL and computer training. In addition, Oasis provides day care for mothers in the program, as well as after school care and a summer camp for their children. Classes run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Other services offered by Oasis include meals, food pantry, clothing bank, counseling and referral services (for domestic violence, substance abuse and medical care).
The $10,000 J. Jill Compassion Fund grant is being used to continue to fund the adult-education program for women.
