Founded in 1978, Redevelopment Opportunities for Women, Inc. (ROW) is premised on the belief that every individual has self-worth and is endowed with certain strengths and abilities. ROW's mission is to create opportunities for women to pursue economic self-sufficiency and personal and family development. This mission is carried out through a variety of programs that create a foundation where women are able to develop the necessary skills and abilities to begin to take control of their lives. Services are focused on serving women who have been impacted by intimate partner violence, homelessness and/or poverty.
ROW’s Economic Action Program (REAP) is such a program. It is designed to make a lasting impact on the lives of women by providing economic education, credit counseling, matched savings accounts, and economic advocacy. The innovative program is offered within emergency shelter programs and at multiple nonresidential sites through the St. Louis area. Women are provided with intensive support for up to four years, as they work to increase their safety and economic security.
The program is offered within five emergency shelters and at multiple nonresidential sites throughout the St. Louis area for women in the community not in need of shelter. Post-shelter aftercare is provided for up to two years to help women stay on course.
The $15,000 J. Jill Compassion Fund grant is being used to continue funding ROW's REAP.
