Vanguard Services Unlimited is a community-based nonprofit organization that has provided substance abuse and addiction treatment services to the most needy members of the metropolitan Washington area community for forty years. The continuum provides transitional housing, substance abuse treatment and other services to disadvantaged women and mothers recovering from chemical addiction, and their children. The Demeter programs help mothers establish themselves and become better parents, which helps families stay together and stay strong. Step one (Demeter House–primary treatment) works with women to break the cycle of addiction. Step two (Demeter Phase II–transitional housing) helps clients learn to live self-sufficiently with the help of a clinical manager and supportive services.
With a J. Jill Compassion Fund grant of $10,000, Vanguard Services Unlimited will be able to continue its high quality of services for the two-step program.
