Women’s Resource Center of Manatee’s mission is to support the emotional and financial independence of women by encouraging educational and vocational success. Currently the center provides over 350 hours of programming a month to the women of Manatee County. The $5,000 grant from the J. Jill Compassion Fund will support the Achieving Independence Programs (AIP). These programs are designed to serve adult women who are in transition (women who have lost their jobs, have suddenly become the sole support for their families due to a death or disability of a spouse, or a divorce). Typical clients include women who do not qualify for cash assistance, but may be on the brink of poverty and need the tools to meet the challenges they now face. The center has developed a network among the organizations that specialize in particular areas of service and can quickly link women with the kind of assistance they need to continue on the road to self-sufficiency.
