Since its inception in 1983, Housing Opportunities for Women, Inc. (HOW), has been working to provide permanent solutions to the problems of homelessness and poverty for women and children.
HOW’s Permanent Supportive Housing Program enables women and their children to exit the homeless system, reconnect to the community, and receive the support they need to retain housing and achieve economic stability. The program utilizes HOW’s nationally recognized “Housing First” strategy that focuses on rapid rehousing coupled with support services.
HOW’s support services help women to secure and retain permanent housing for themselves and their children, to obtain steady employment, to access community-based resources, and to integrate into the community. This helps women build the support needed to address a myriad of social, economic and personal issues in their lives.
The $30,000 grant from the J. Jill Compassion Fund is being used specifically to support HOW’s employment initiatives in the Permanent Supportive Housing Program.
