New Beginnings: A Women’s Crisis Center is a nonprofit organization that provides 24-hour assistance to women in Belknap County whose lives have been affected by domestic violence and/or sexual assault.

Through a 24-hour crisis line answered by trained volunteers and staff, New Beginnings offers nonjudgmental support and information about options and services available to women in crisis. The organization also provides 24-hour accompaniment to hospitals and police departments, temporary housing for victims fleeing abuse, and an emergency food pantry.

The center offers a variety of counseling services, including one-to-one meetings, ongoing support groups and support and assistance at court appearances and in obtaining protective orders.

The center offers no-cost educational programs for schools, community groups, social services agencies, hospital personnel, law enforcement and others interested in learning about domestic violence and sexual assault.

The J. Jill Compassion Fund grant of $30,000 is being used to fund enhanced shelter services and support for women and children in abusive relationships.
